MANGALDAI: A full grown rhino has not only faced its defeat in an infighting with another rhino, but met with the tragic end of his life. This incident has taken place in Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR) in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The staff of ONPTR at Borkhe Anti Poaching Camp detected the carcass at about 9.25 am with its horn intact. Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division Pradipta Barua immediately rushed to the spot and arranged for the post mortem examination by the Veterinary Officer of the locality.

Mention may be made here that following the strict vigilance of the staff of the park, the ONPTR has been recording zero poaching since 2018. According to an estimate from February 2022, there are 125 one-horned rhinos in existence, according to the ONPTR.
